Our Passion is to help disadvantaged women to gain independence
Introducing the Women Empowerment Tailoring Shop
With very few available resources, the sewing/tailoring group starts with making their own patterns, cut from newspapers after meticulous measuring
In the beginning of the program, the entire group had one sewing machine to share. Now, after learning how to start their own business and beginning to make a profit, they have an official shop, registered with the government, and five machines to try to keep up with growing orders for clothing.
It is a very exciting time for these women who never envisioned their own business and the ability to make a living wage with their skills.
As their reputation in the community grows, so does the need to meet expectations. Recently, they were able to purchase an industrial machine, more capable of working with heavy fabrics.
The group continues to work together, learning more seamstress skills and keeping up with business orders.

What an inspirational example they are of what can happen with support and resources.
Henna decorations and make-up are critical to special occasions in Zanzibar culture, such as weddings or family events.
This group of henna and make-up artists continue to learn new skills in this area and have worked to start their own International Salon business.
Starting a business means obtaining an official government license, creating a business name, and presenting their products to potential clients. These skills are taught in the Women Empowerment class.
Recently, their first shop has been rented and renovated, It is now open for business in their community.
There is something so special about having a physical shop, to say you work in this shop, to say it belongs to you, to know that every day your skills will be put to use for your community customers.
Introducing the Women's International Salon

The shop in its beginning, especially will need continued support as they begin to build a client base and then begin making a profit to support themselves and their business.
